Resomation / Water Cremation

Austeng are a boutique engineering firm that specialises in the design, engineering, development and building of customised electromechanical machinery and systems.

Why Resomation?

Around the world, consumer expectations and regulatory pressures are reshaping the deathcare industry. Consumers are increasingly looking forward for alternatives that have a smaller carbon footprint. Resomation®, also known as water cremation, is a high pressure, high temperature alkaline process which represents the most advanced response to this challenge. Instead of using fire, the process uses a combination of water, heat, pressure, and an alkaline solution to accelerate the disposition process.

🌱 Environmental Benefits

  • Up to 90% less energy use compared to flame cremation.
  • No direct COâ‚‚ emissions — avoiding the release of thousands of kilograms of greenhouse gases per cremation.
  • No harmful pollutants — mercury from dental amalgams and other toxins are safely captured, not released into the atmosphere.
  • Conserves natural resources, as it relies on water and an alkaline solution rather than fossil fuels.

đź’§ Dignity & Family Experience

  • A gentler process that avoids flames and high heat.
  • Families receive pure white ashes, cleaner in appearance to traditional cremation, allowing for the same memorial and scattering options.
  • Provides a meaningful choice for families who want to honour their loved one in a more sustainable way

Why Austeng Partnered with Resomation

Austengs reputation is based on its diversity and ability to provide innovative engineering solutions to a range of situations.  It is ideally set up to introduce Resomation®, an innovative solution for disposition, to Australia as its background in manufacturing special purpose equipment for industry and, in particular, pressure vessels make it ideal to integrate this technology in the Australian context as well as providing ancillary equipment.  Austeng will assist with installation and on-site commissioning and provide service support and other technical back-ups.

Resomation Ltd themselves captured the significance of this partnership:

“Resomation Ltd are delighted to announce the appointment of innovative engineering company, Austeng to represent us in our endeavor to support the industry with the introduction of our Resomation® technology.”

The rationale for this collaboration is clear:

  • Global Innovation, Local Delivery
Resomation is the world leader in water cremation, proven across the world. By partnering with them, Austeng can deliver this breakthrough technology to Australian clients, backed by our local engineering and manufacturing expertise.
  • Shared Commitment to Net-Zero
As Ross George, Managing Director of Austeng, stated:

“This technology’s time has come given its implications relating to reduction in energy use and carbon footprint which will be key to supporting Australia’s climate change ambitions and its net-zero emissions target by 2050.”

Together, Austeng and Resomation provide solutions that are not only operationally effective but also aligned with Australia’s long-term sustainability goals.

  • Local Support for a Growing Market
With Australian demand for greener funeral options rising, Howard Pickard, MD of Resomation Ltd, emphasised the importance of this partnership:

“Given the increased level of interest in the Australian market it was critical that local assistance was established to ensure our clients receive immediate, competent and local support.”

Austeng brings precisely this capability — ensuring clients gain not just access to Resomation’s proven technology, but also responsive, on-the-ground support tailored to local conditions and regulations.

  • Complete End-to-End Capability
Austeng offers full lifecycle support — from design and installation to commissioning, service, and maintenance — giving providers certainty that their investment will perform reliably in the Australian context.

👉 In short: Resomation brings the technology. Austeng brings the local expertise, agility, and trust. Together, we are enabling Australia’s deathcare industry to take a decisive step toward sustainability and net-zero.
